Capsule Endoscopy

What is a Capsule Endoscopy?

Capsule Endoscopy is a non-invasive procedure that enables diagnostic imaging of parts of the bowel that cannot be reached by Gastroscopy or Colonoscopy.

Capsule Endoscopy is usually performed to investigate symptoms such as:

  • Persistent Anaemia
  • Gastro-intestinal bleeding
  • Diarrhoea
  • Abdominal pain

Capsule Endoscopy is also effective in detection of polyps, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and ulcers.

A small, pill sized video camera is ingested which records vision of your small intestine as it passes through. For eight hours these images are sent to a data recorder worn around your waist. Afterwards the image are viewed and analysed on a video monitor by our specialist Gastroenterologist.
